Ms Claire’s Montessori school is thrilled to now have two locations. Our original location in Montgomery is nestled behind the Wallkill River School at 8 Factory Street and our Maybrook location is tucked back from the main road in the historic Blake House at 924 Homestead Ave.
Claire Noorlander Pahucki is the owner of Ms. Claire’s. She began her career at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford in Vocal Performance. From there she obtained her Montessori Certification through the Center for Montessori Teacher Education at the College of New Rochelle. After several years of teaching she decided to return to her love of music and opened Ms. Claire’s Music Cupboard. She spent five years providing music for children from birth to seven years old utilizing the Kindermusik program.
In addition to the Kindermusik program, Ms. Claire’s provides birthday parties with multiple themes to choose from and private music lessons. There are also programs for families with disabilities to enjoy music and movement.
In the Summer of 2012 Claire decided to start a small, part-time Montessori based Pre-School program. The first year of the program consisted of just 3 half-day sessions with approximately eight students in attendance. In the Spring of 2013 the budget for the Valley Central School District failed for the 2013-2014 school year. This meant that art and music were cut from the Elementary Schools and Kindergarten was cut to half day.
The Community was upset and looking for programs to supplement their children’s education. Claire had long-term goals of expanding the pre-school program that she was running. These unexpected circumstances led her to rethink her time frame and ultimately begin the process to open a private school providing Pre-K through 1st grade. Thus, Ms. Claire’s Montessori was born and officially opened as a NYS certified school in September of 2013.
The Kindergarten children in the Valley Central School District attended their local Elementary School in the am or pm. Many families made the decision to send their child to Ms. Claire’s for the other half of the day. The staff worked closely with the VC teachers to reinforce what they were learning and make the transitions smooth and easy for the children. Now the students were able to have more learning time in their day and also had music and art classes while attending Ms. Claire’s.
That Spring the budget passed for VC and Kindergarten, Art and Music were restored. The community and staff were thrilled. At this time Claire worked with the Valley Central School District to become one of their Universal Pre-K providers. In the Summer of 2014 NY State made a grant available for a full day UPK program and VC was awarded the grant. As a result Ms. Claire’s became a full day UPK provider at the beginning of the 2014/2015 school year.
As Ms. Claire’s Montessori has grown, the staff has consistently provided an exceptional learning environment that is nurturing and fosters the child’s love of learning. The staff at Ms. Claire’s believes strongly in the Montessori method and have over 50 years combined Montessori teaching experience. The program there is unique because it is comprised of both Montessori and NYS certified teachers. This allows them to provide their students with a complete and comprehensive education experience and prepares the students for their future.
As the school continues to grow the staff strive to maintain a community presence. From hosting blood drives a couple of times a year to organizing fundraisers for local families in need, you can often find Ms. Claire’s lending a hand. They have developed a community-minded program to impart on the students the importance of helping others, Meaningful Missions. One of the most important things we can teach children is to be more concerned about others than ourselves. In addition to helping out in the community Ms. Claire’s believes in utilizing local business and helping to support other local small business owners. All of this added to an amazing staff and wonderful students creates a one of a kind environment. It is evident that the staff genuinely cares and respects each other and that the children are their number one priority.
